How to: Trust God when Life is Crazy

Have you ever wondered how to trust God when it feels like life is out of control? How can you know what God is doing in your life? When life is chaotic it can be even harder to sense God’s movings, workings, and even His presence. Today we’re going to dive into how we can still trust that He is working.

First, through Scripture

We all know about Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

And that’s a great one for sure! Here are a few more promises that can help us feel assured.

Another favorite is Romans 8:28: And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.

Isaiah 58:11 is a great lesser known one: The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

One of my personal favorites is Psalm 27:14: Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

And of course I love Proverbs 23:18: There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.

Finally, Deuteronomy 31:6: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

God has given us so many Scriptural promises that He is with us. Moreover, we’re told that He does not change! He is working all things out for YOU. He is moving things in YOUR favor–and this is not some prosperity gospel. Throughout Scripture He promises that He has our good in mind. God doesn’t desire to put you through hard things.

Chaos and craziness, stress and dramatic sagas are of the devil, not of God. God desires to bring you peace not chaos. That doesn’t mean that we won’t experience it, just that it isn’t God that is bringing it. We can trust that through the chaos He has promised to work FOR US.

Second, Through PRaise

For me, praise is my best heart changer. Christian music, especially bands, artists, and songs that have special meaning to me, is often the medium by which peace is instilled into my heart. Hearing others praise God and having my heart lifted by the music can often shift my mood and perspective about an issue or experience I’m going through. Knowing people have walked through similar experiences and are able to still praise God is deeply heartening to me.

THird, Making Room for Faith

Sometimes we have to make room for faith. This means kicking doubt out of our hearts and heads. Doubt doesn’t pay rent, instead it takes and takes and takes. Then it moves in its best friend anxiety. Kick doubt out! Choose faith. When doubt invades, take time to breathe and consciously choose faith. Shoot up a prayer for help and move toward faith. When we choose to trust God and have faith, doubt and stress don’t have enough space in our hearts and minds.

God really does love you. He really is taking care of you. Take a chance on trusting Him today.
